Effect of BIM on Integrated Building Control Systems

BIM (Building Information Modeling) applications, which are prepared to rewrite the rules of the design, will require the rewriting of EBKS rules with the Integrated Building Control Systems or its frequently used abbreviation. You can find what BIM applications bring in our article titled  Fourth Dimension and Beyond in BIM Design .

Competition in EBKS Solutions

Two separate trends are in competition in EBKS solution, which has become a standard for medium and large-scale buildings. One of them is the software developed by international companies with great capital power for their own hardware and the brand independent solutions of companies whose business is to develop software. Although there seem to be technical differences between two solutions, in fact, these differences entirely arise from commercial concerns. Both are software and can theoretically perform the same work. The obvious technical difference is that one is embedded software and the other is the integration solution. What is Integration? Our article that we prepared for this purpose on the above subject will help to understand the difference. You can examine what the brand-independent software solutions provide in our article titled Graphic Monitoring Software for Facility Management, and the technical comparison of both solutions in our articles titled You Decide How You Manage Your Facility .

Integration with BIM

The effect of BIM applications on HSEQ software is to eliminate the apparent difference between software belonging to a brand and brand-independent software. When you use BIM-compliant EBKS software, all smart objects in the database will also be recognized by EBKS software. Naturally, all information defined in the smart object database will also be available to EBKS. This will allow the end user to integrate any BIM compliant product into EBKS. No additional hardware or software will be required for integration, which is a significant cost item in EBKS applications, and a significant reduction in engineering costs will be achieved.

BIM Applications and Future of EBKS

It is not possible for EBKS software running on existing two-dimensional graphics to compete with BIM applications that provide three-dimensional virtual reality supported by smart objects. In addition, when BIM is applied, a copy of the building will be created in a virtual environment and all changes made in the application will be processed in this virtual copy. This means that the virtual copy of the building will be the same on the day when it is delivered to the business. The time spent on works such as creating screen graphs, point identification, which is another cost item of EBKS applications, will be decreased to almost zero.

The impact of BIM applications on EBKS can be compared to the effects of using WEB based applications on the relevant sector in the hardware world or the software world. However, since EBKS is a part of both the hardware and software world, it is not an exaggeration to say that the transformation that BIM will bring will be their multiplication and even more. Considering the spreading rate of common protocol or WEB based software, we can also say that the spread of the BIM applications, which are perceived as distant for today, is not as far away as it is thought.
