Oyak Renault Factory, Bursa

Oyak Renault Factory, Bursa

In 2009 Oyak-Renault Car Factory, Bursa celebrated its 40th anniversary. Today, it's the Renault company's largest subsidiary outside Western Europe. The plant, with bodywork-assembly and mechanical-frame factories, R & D center and international logistics center, is Renault group's one of the foremost production centers among 38 production plants spread worldwide. The plant has an annual production capacity of 360 thousand cars and 450 thousand engines. Oyak-Renault produces Symbol, Clio model III's 3 / 5-door hatchback and Grand Tour versions; Fluence and Megane HB models. These cars' mechanical parts and engines are also manufactured and exported. Oyak-Renault Car Factory began producing electric-powered Fluence which will be remembered as one of the first innovations in the Turkish Automotive Industry.

With 292 thousand m² covered area and a total of 500 thousand m² of production facilities near Bursa, it is the first Turkish automobile factory to receive the ISO 9001 quality certification in 1996. In 1999, high focus on quality rewarded the production facilities with the "zero error" ISO 14001 certification.

EEC's Role

Oyak-Renault automobile factory is one of the oldest industrial facilities served by EEC. The first systems were put into operation in 1995, which were analogue addressable fire control panels, Edwards-IRC-3. Due to the factory’s rapid growth with additional production/administration buildings and the request to benefit from the innovations in fire detection and smoke control technologies, the old system was refurbished in 2005 with Edwards EST3 control panels and Signature series intelligent field elements, retaining the existing wiring. The system is still growing, with renewals and add-ons to the sections; while maintenance and repair services are also provided by EEC.

Early and accurate detection, local evacuation and smoke control are important specifications required at 7 / 24 in use facilities like Oyak-Renault. For fire alarm installations, EST3 fire alarm system's strong architecture provides the ability to transmit a fire alarm to every fire alarm panel in only 3 seconds within the whole facility.

Technical Approach

9 fire alarm panels and 2500 pcs. of Signature series intelligent addressable detectors, modules, manual call points form the network. Each building, which was added to the system in different times, has its own EST3 control panel. Addressable point detectors are used in public areas and in order to offer more protection for large volume areas beam detectors are used. At the engine test rooms, VESDA (Very Early Warning Aspirating Smoke Dedector ) air sampling smoke detectors are used, which can detect fire at a very early stage.

Special types of horn/ horn+strobes are required for overcoming very high level of noise at production plants. Each section is designed according to the acoustic measurements/calculations; different types of horn and horn+strobe combinations are used with a maximum sound output of 102, 112 and 120dBA.

All panels and addressable elements of the system installed can be controlled by Fireworks graphic based monitoring software from a single command center. Besides transmitting alarm and fault messages to operators regarding their priority, the software also automatically shows the exact place of a faulty device or a detector in an alarm state over facility's plans and drawings, therefore shortening the time of inspection. With Fireworks command and monitoring software, all addressable devices' pollution levels can be reported with which maintenance periods can be decided precisely.
