Italian merchant Vincenzo Caivano had the The Macka Palas Apartment built on the grounds of Sultan Abdülmecit's granddaughter Münire's Palace in 1922. The apartment was converted into a hotel and Park Hyatt Maçka Palace opened in 2008.
