Control Room Automation Systems

Control Room Automation Systems

In general, these large-screen systems are used to collect, visualise, and distribute all sorts of information, in order to make them visible and accessible to all operators in a control room and to guarantee a comprehensive survey of the complete situation.

We offer integrated solutions for data visualisation and operator control in command centres.

The main elements of control room automation

  • Large screen display systems (video-wall),
  • Desktop integration and remote PC control systems
  • Efficient and ergonomically designed workplaces

The specific requirements of a large-screen system always varies depending on the field of application with regard to size and the connected signal sources. But there are different requirements from one installation to the next, even in the same field of application. For this reason, it is especially important to have flexible and individually customisable solutions.

The main reasons for the installation of a large screen system in a control room are:

  • Precise survey of all information, and therefore short response times and fast troubleshooting in emergency situations
  • Advanced control possibilities
  • Intelligent display solutions with control features, such as alarm management, presets, etc.
  • Task sharing
  • Multiple possibilities of display
  • Large number of different signals / information / scenarios

The following conditions have to be taken into calculation before the installation of a large screen system in a control room:

  • Available room/space
  • Duration of visualisation (7/24 or temporary)
  • Sort and quality of the displayed signals
  • Integration requirements with the other control systems
  • Environmental conditions (lighting, temperature, humidity, etc.)
  • Number of users/operators
  • Expandability requirements

Control rooms are used in a wide variety of applications, such as telecommunications, military, traffic control, transportation, energy, aerospace, airports, water and sewage plants, public utilities, emergency services, police and fire departments, and data centres where we need a large screen wall that provides the required information 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

When  you apply to EEC for a control room solution, we do a series of studies for identification and evaluation of the most appropriate system for you.

  1. Monitoring requirements are determined by analyzing the application and your specific needs
  2. Appropriate and optimal solutions are found by discussing possible operational scenarios.
  3. Future expansion needs, material and installation costs are also evaluated to find possible system alternatives
  4. When the decision is made, implementation process starts with preparing implementation projects, ends with commissioning and training.
  5. The initial stage of operation of the system is supervised by engineers, system operators are always supported with detailed training sessions if needed.

After the systems become operational, our teams are at your disposal for repair and maintenance services.

We support a wide range of control room products.

Some of the most notable advantages of integrated desktop solutions are the flexibility of system architecture and the integration of multiple platforms. Keyboard, mouse, video and audio signals of PCs are remoted from a system room to the desk.

Remoting PCs significantly improves the total energy balance of an IT system and guarantees a comfortable office climate. With the Allocation System, multiple source signals are switched and distributed to the workplace in real time. An Allocation System is independent of operating systems, networks, platform and hardware vendors.

Multifunctional Keyboards enable operators to control multiple workstations with a single keyboard and mouse. A broad range of keyboard types (e.g. serial, PS2, USB) and platforms (e.g. PC, Reuters Dealing, SUN) are supported. Keyboard functionality can be extended with a Video Deskswitch or Video Distributor to control the handling of video signals from workstations to monitors on the desk.

The free seating concept allows users to logon to the Allocation System from any desk where a multifunctional keyboard is installed. When a user moves to another desk, he simply logs on again and gets immediate access to all sources defined in the user profile.

We design and install your control rooms using the most appropriate software and hardware solutions from the the world's leading manufacturers.
